On “Beautiful Disaster,” 2025

I love being alive.

I wake up early. I consider all of the possibilities of the day and set off with joy.

I aim to live with a sense of possibilities, adventure, opportunity, and most importantly, beauty.

The awareness of beauty is, to varying degrees, experienced by many despite the decay swelling around us. We deny the future is not sustainable and destructive, ignoring all the indicators of what is to come…

That ominous horizon of the end of the Anthropocene seems to be getting closer and closer and begs simple questions when we are living in a time of dying:

How do we do it?

What does that look like?

Is our joy that of an ignorant - or deliberately ignorant - soul, or is it possible to live joyfully amidst the beautiful disaster?

My images try to illustrate and meditate on that duality through explorations of surface, color, form, and process. I hope these images bring you tears of joy as they do for me.
